What personal data we collect and why
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data displayed on the comment form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser ID to help detect spam.
An anonymous string based on your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to verify that you are using it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is comfortable, your profile picture will be publicly visible to it.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you can allow your name, email address and website to be stored in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will be kept for one year.
If you have an account and log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.
When you log in to the site, a few more cookies will save your login information and your preferences about what to see on the screen. The login cookies expire after two days and the screen preference cookies after a year. If you choose the remember option, your login information will be kept for two weeks. If you log out, your login cookies will be deleted.
If you edit or publish an article an additional cookie will be stored in your browser. It will not contain any personal data, but will simply add the identifier of the post you have just edited. Expires in one day.
How long we keep your personal data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so that we can automatically recognize and approve your subsequent comments instead of holding them in the approval queue.
For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can view and edit this information.
Your rights over your personal data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments on it, you can request to receive a file containing all the data we hold about you, including data you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete the personal data we hold about you. However, this does not include data that we are required to keep for administrative purposes, for site security purposes, or by law.
How we use your data
Comments from visitors can be checked by an automatic spam comment checking service.
